The Indian Trail High School Orchestra was established in 2006. It currently serves over 160 students and is made up of three orchestras and an after school Chamber Orchestra. Our program strongly emphasizes musicianship through performances, solo and ensemble and large group contests. We also work with clinicians from neighboring universities and other professional musicians on a monthly basis.
Concert Orchestra– The Concert Orchestra is made up of Freshman students. Our main focus is on technical development, intonation, and rhythm through performance.
Symphonic Orchestra– The Symphonic Orchestra is made up of Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. The Symphonic Orchestra has a strong emphasis on musicianship through performance as they refine skills and perform more challenging repertoire.
Philharmonic Orchestra- The Philharmonic Orchestra is the top Orchestra at Indian Trail and is made up of Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. The Philharmonic Orchestra performs the most challenging repertoire with a large emphasis on musicianship and performance.
Chamber Orchestra- The Chamber Orchestra is made up of all grades at Indian Trail and meets twice a week after school. The Chamber Orchestra studies both classical and popular repertoire and mainly performs at concerts and WSMA Solo and Ensemble.
Pit Orchestra- The Pit Orchestra is made up of select students in band and orchestra. These students perform in Indian Trails pit for the winter musical.
About the Director
Kevin Stewart is in his 5th year as the orchestra director at Indian Trail High School and Academy. He received his Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2013. At UW-Milwaukee Mr. Stewart was principal Bassist of the UWM Symphony Orchestra for 5 years and studied String Bass with Laura Snyder. He also studied Trombone with Mark Hoelscher. Throughout college Mr. Stewart performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Choirs and other small ensembles. Mr. Stewart has also performed all over the world including Carnegie Hall and on The Great Wall of China.
Besides teaching at Indian Trail, Mr. Stewart has taught music at all levels. Previously he taught general music at Messmer Catholic Schools in Milwaukee, directed the South Milwaukee Middle School Summer Orchestra Program and was a String Bass coach for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra.
